- If you see a message about "REMOTE HOST IDENTIFICATION HAS CHANGED!" or similar:
- In Thinlinc: just press continue or ok.
- In ssh: You need to remove the information about the server you try to connect TO in the file ~/.ssh/known_hosts (i.e. the file .ssh/known_host in your home directory on the server you connect FROM). An easy way to solve it is to rename (or remove) the file ~/.ssh/known_hosts. If you get instructions for how to solve it (when trying to connect to the server), just follow those.
- If you still have problems logging in to Thinlinc, try unmark the square "End existing session" in the Thinlinc login window.
- There may be other problems, system wide or for individual users, that we have not been able to foresee. In that case, please send an email to itsupport@uu.se.

On Tuesday, December 12, the Thinlinc/Linux system at the Department of Mathematics will be migrated to new hardware. The work will take all day. We need to start the work at 6 p.m. on the evening of December 11.

- The Department file server (home directories belonging to the Thinlinc/Linux system)

Problems with Mathematica (solved now)
February 28, solved: The new agreement for Mathematica is now ready. Mathematica works again.
February 7: Unfortunately, there is a problem with the license for the Mathematica software. We will contact Wolfram, the distributor of the software, and make a bug report.
We will return with more information as soon as possible.
February 15, update: The Uppsala university agreement for Mathematica was expired in the beginning of February. It will be renewed but the process for that is unfortunately delayed. "Staben" within UIT is working together with the procurement unit to get the new agreement as quickly as possible. Until then it is not possible for us to get new installation keys.

IT services unreachable at Polacksbacken
Solved 211129
Since Saturday, November 27, several IT services running within the UIT infrastructure platform at
Polacksbacken are unreachable. For Math Department this affects unfortunately the Thinlinc system
and the aplication servers (Abel and the Haddock nodes). Troubleshooting is in progress.
We will update with more information as soon as possible.

We currently have problems on the wired network at Math. Unfortunately,

Tuesday June 18:
The maintenance work is finished for today. Please report any problems in Bugzilla.
We have earlier reported about recurring problems logging in to the Math servers.
The error is identified but the solution requires unfortunately a full day's downtime.
The downtime will affect all common systems for Math (for example Thinlinc, Haddock cluster, accessing the home directories etc). The
wired network will not work. However, Eduroam and UpUnet-S should work. Printing should work through Eduroam.

Change in the home directories
Upon request (of the head of the Department) we will soon change the access rights in the home directories so that they are readable only to the owner. The execute rights will not be changed. This applies to all existing directories and those that will be created for new users in the future.
Login issues (Thinlinc, Haddock etc)
We have earlier reported about problems logging in to the Math servers.
Unfortunately the issue is not solved. It affects for example logging in
to the Thinlinc system now and then and also accessing the home directories.
We have now identified one problem with the server that handles those
functions. We are working on a solution and will return with more
information as soon as it is possible.

Problems logging in to Abel
Problems starting Matlab or Maple from Thinlinc
If you have been logged on to Abel before the upgrade (in February) you need to create new SSH keys. When running Matlab or Maple from Thinlinc you will be connected to Abel which means you get the same problem. Follow this instruction:
ssh-keygen -R abel.math.uu.se -f /home/username/.ssh/known_hosts
ssh-keygen -R 130.238.58.30 -f /home/username/.ssh/known_hosts
Change "username" to your own username that you have on Abel (same as on the Thinlinc system and the Department file server).
Log on again. Answer "Yes" if you get a question similar to :
"The authenticity of host 'abel.math.uu.se (130.238.58.30)' can't be established.
ECDSA key fingerprint is SHA256:KQPOMVz3ykVszTfAJFZFxI12ssPpJXEdq+umHIL/7KU.

Service of the application server Abel on Monday, February 18
The reinstallation was finnished on Wednesday, February 20. Mathematica is not working with the new version of Ubuntu but we will upgrade it during next week (v.9).
We are going to take down Abel on Monday the 18th of February to reinstall it with Ubuntu 18.04.
Thinlinc (and laptop-/workstation) users: You can run Matlab and Maple on the Haddock cluster, see information about the Haddock cluster here.
